Dear Fraser Health Family,
I am writing today to introduce you to Dermot Kelly, who will join us November 25 as Vice President, Community Hospitals and Health Services. Dermot has had a robust health care career already over the years, gaining experience across Vancouver Coastal and Island Health Authorities in a wide range of senior positions. Most recently, Dermot held the position of Executive Director for the North Island (Geography 1) area for Island Health. His portfolio included five hospitals and the health services for 44 communities and 21 First Nations communities. Dermot’s leadership was also instrumental in the successful opening of the two North Island hospital campuses in 2017.
In addition, he is an Accreditation Canada surveyor, an advisory committee member for the BC Patient Safety Quality Council and a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He holds a Master of Science degree in Physiology from McGill University and has extensive expertise in Quality Management Systems and LEAN thinking.
Dermot has a strong commitment to patient-centred care and partnerships, and a focus on cultural safety and humility. He describes his ideal job as one that allows him to create better experiences for patients, families, staff, providers and partners through collaboration and relationships. He is excited to bring his passion, quality, innovation and experience to Fraser Health.
I would like to take the opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to Laurie Leith, Vice
President Regional Hospitals and Communities, for her leadership, support and patience during the transition period.
