1. Please share your most interesting case with a patient?

“One of the most interesting cases recently involved a 65 year old man with a new diagnosis of prostate cancer. I removed his prostate without complication but his PSA remained elevated. We were able to get a PSMA PET scan showing two lymph nodes that contained cancer in the right pelvis. After reviewing his case at the BCCA genitourinary cancer rounds we decided to remove the lymph nodes surgically followed by radiation therapy. He has now been free of prostate cancer for over a year and enjoying an excellent quality of life. The case highlights our ability to cure even metastatic prostate cancer with a multidisciplinary approach using contemporary imaging modalities, surgery and radiation.”

2. What is the best advice you were given during your time in medical school that has had a lasting impact on your practice?

“If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you can’t take care of other people. Make a plan for self care and treat it like part of your job.”

3. What are you currently working on that is helping to impact our local medical community and/or local patients?

“This year I have worked as the Physician Lead in a Quality Improvement Initiative to reduce the number of hospital acquired UTIs at RMH. Through collaborative work over the past year we have seen a decrease of hospital acquired UTIs of over 25%.”

4. What is some advice or wisdom you would like to share with your medical staff peers, or any new physicians joining our community?

“To the new physicians joining us: We are blessed to have a tight knit group of physicians and leaders in our community who are very generous with their time and wisdom. Don’t forget to reach out to this community of people if you are in need of advice, support, or a hiking buddy.”
