I grew up in the Cariboo and spent my childhood climbing trees, building rafts and reading voraciously. I graduated high school and joined the workforce and didn’t consider nursing until 4 years later when I was inspired to take a care aid course. In that course I had a wonderful instructor who encouraged me to pursue Nursing as a career. 5 years later I graduated from BCIT with my nursing degree and a deep love for the profession. I spent my early years at Lions Gate hospital where after 5 months of Medical nursing I was pulled to ER and took specialty training. I loved (and still love) the organized chaos and knew that I had found a passion. Bringing together systems and people into high functioning teams has been a focus over the last 10 years for me, whether I was at the bedside, charge in ER, Site leading or in a management position.
Over the last 6 years I have managed several clinical areas including ER (both here and Abbottsford), Medicine, Ambulatory clinics (both here and RCH) and am now moving into a new clinical portfolio that will cover General Rehab and Allied health. This portfolio will also allow me the space to add a key component of my new role in leading and supporting recruitment and retention at the site.
One of the things that I have uncovered along the way is a knack and love for finding out what makes people come and more importantly what makes then stay. I hope to spread some of that to the site as I strongly believe that having the right people is critical to the care we provide. I will also be working with our front line leadership teams to support and mentor them in their leadership roles.
As a human I believe that every interaction we have with another is an opportunity to create something awesome. I am very fortunate to be able to serve in the community where I live and work with people who share common values and are committed to working together as a team.
